HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS: FOOTBALL SCORES, SCHEDULES

The Yucca valley High School Varsity Trojan football team lost against Indio Friday night, 43-13. Coach Andrew Amosa said the team racked up over 350 yards on offense, improving each week they have played. The offense line played great and helped Creston Cole rush for 184 yards. Tommy Gieger had 71 yards rushing and a rushing touchdown. Gieger also threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to junior WR Sean Wallace. Defense was led by seniors Mike McKay and Taylor Smith with eight tackles each. The Trojans will travel to Blythe to play against Palo Verde HS this Friday.

Coach Tim Cannavo reported The JV team remained undefeated by beating Indio 44-0.

The Twentynine Palms Varsity Wildcats fell 56-27 to Arrowhead Christian at home Friday night. Head Coach Ernest Martinez said the ’Cats once again had big games from James Shragge and tailback Beayahn Carrllo. Defensively, first-year varsity player Demetrius Holmes had an interception, sophomore Caleb Roy had a solid game on defense with nine tackles, and junior linebacker Andrew Wilson had two sacks and seven tackles on the night. The Wildcats are now 1-1 after two non-league games.

The Twentynine Palms High School Frosh-Soph played a solid game on Thursday against Arrowhead Christian losing a heartbreaker 14-12 in the final minutes. Enliko Tuli and Quentin Griffin played well at the back up quarterback position. K.J. Magwood, Derek Sutherland, and Raymond Williams played well for the Frosh-Soph team.

Joshua Springs Lightning football improved to 3-0 on the season, defeating the visiting Lancaster Baptist Eagles 40-24 in a non-league match. After the first half saw the two teams trading scores, the Lightning pulled away in the second half, led by senior Jeff Bachman, who broke two Joshua Springs records, longest run (78 yards for a touchdown) and most tackles in a game, with 26. Dylan Green finished with three scores, while Connor McClay caught two Joey Hagerman touchdown receptions.

And the Twentynine Palms High School volleyball home game against Banning, originally scheduled for Wednesday, has been changed to tomorrow, Tuesday, September 16. The match begins at 4:30.
