HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS, CROSS TOWN RIVALRY BASKETBALL TONIGHT

Today in high school sports, the Twentynine Palms High School and Yucca Valley High School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams will play each other. The girls will play in Yucca Valley and the boys will play in Twentynine Palms. Both games begin at 6 p.m. 
 
The Yucca Valley High School wrestling teams will hold a spaghetti dinner tonight at the high school. Tickets are $5 each for adults, $2.50 for children, and can be purchased at the door. The dinner starts at 6 p.m.
 
Wednesday night was a huge offensive night for the Twentynine Palms High School boys’ basketball team as they took on the Desert Mirage Rams. Coach Jeremy Johnson said the Wildcats dominated with a 92-50 performance. Leading the scoring was D’Shaun Barrett with 23 points; Jimmy Shragge, 16 points; Andrew Wilson dominated the boards and had 14 points, and Kyle Hope had nine points. The Wildcats shot 12 for 13 on the free throw line and hit 10 three-pointers on the night.

Wednesday night, the Twentynine Palms girls’ varsity basketball team improved their league record to 5 and 0 with a win at Desert Mirage 65 to 25. Coach Tim Stanford said leading scorers on the night were Lindsey Scamman with 16 points, 16 rebounds, six steals, and four assists. Tatiyanna Mackall had 14 points, eight rebounds; Courtney Stanford had nine points; and Jamie Brann had nine points. Makya Bullion had an outstanding night on defense and contributed seven assists. 
 
The Twentynine Palms Wildcats boys’ soccer teams played at home Wednesday night against the #1 ranked Rams of Desert Mirage and lost 8-1. Coach Nathan Niles said the varsity team came out slow with a 5-0 deficit in the first 20 minutes, before Rhyen Smith scored on a throw-in from Sam Eggers. The Wildcats then fought hard for one hour allowing only three more goals. The JV squad played a solid first half and evened the score at 1-1 with a nice chip shot by Carlos Herrera on an assist from Justin Silvas. The Wildcats fell by the score of 7-1. Keeper Kyle Lawrence had 10 saves on the day.
 
The Lady Wildcats soccer team traveled to take on Desert Mirage High School Wednesday evening, resulting in a 1-0 victory for junior varsity and a 1-0 loss for the varsity team. Coach Richard Sanchez said senior goalkeeper Maranda Palmer contributed 21 saves for the ’Cats in the hard-fought varsity contest. Sophomore forward Rose Perrotte scored an unassisted first half goal for junior varsity, while the defense, led by juniors Cat Aguilar and Samantha Crippen, kept the Lady Rams scoreless. Freshman goalkeeper Alexis Soster had nine saves in the shutout victory
