Friday night the Twentynine Palms High School Boys Basketball team traveled to Rancho Mirage to take on the undefeated Rancho Mirage Rattlers. After falling behind by 18 points, the Wildcats came back and cut the lead to a 1-point game with less than a minute left, 72-71. The Rattlers ended the game with the win on the free throw line 76-71. Athletic Director Jeremy Johnson said D’ Shaun Barrett led the Cats with 25 points, Adam Bell 13 points, and Abraham Bell with 12 points. Abraham had 12 rebounds and Jimmy Shragge and Demetrius Holmes each had 6 assists.
Yucca Valley High School Boys soccer lost to DHS HS 3 to 1, Coach Jorge Rodriguez said the only score came from a penalty kick taken by Junior Vincenzo Costagliola.
The Yucca Valley High School Girls’ Soccer team hosted Desert Hot Springs High School in De Anza League play. The Lady Trojans won by a score of 3-0. Coach Scott Phillips said Sophomore Jackie Bolha led the way with 2 goals and freshman Riley Vallo added a goal. Sophomore Liana Jimenez provided 2 assists and Junior Alexia Missett fought off double teams all night to add an assist. Senior Nikole Cody recorded the shutout.
The Lady Wildcats Soccer Team hosted Rancho Mirage High School Friday evening, resulting in a a 9-0 loss for the varsity team and 5-1 loss for junior varsity. Coach Richard Sanchez said Varsity captain junior Cheyenne Hunsinger and sophomore Emma Yeager worked at both ends of the field to lead The Cats and keep them fighting throughout the game. Senior goalkeeper Maranda Palmer contributed 20 saves.
Freshman goalkeeper Alexis Soster had thirty-one saves for junior varsity in the loss.
