The Yucca Valley High School boys’ soccer team played their first home game against Sultana High School from Hesperia. Coach Jorge Rodriguez said Yucca Valley came out fast and scored two goals in the first half and held them to no goals in the second half, Final score was 2 to 0. This marks the end of the pre-season. The season begins Wednesday at Big Bear.
On December 28 and 29, the Twentynine Palms High School boys’ varsity soccer team traveled to Loma Linda Academy for the Gary Pettis Memorial Cup. Coach Nathan Niles said after losing a hard-fought game against the Banning Broncos, 3-6, they finished the tourney with three straight wins over Aquinas, La Sierra Academy, and Desert Christian Academy. The team finished a very strong third place with 22 goals scored and 15 allowed. Niles said great team play and unselfishness lead to goals scored by the following: Samuel Smith, Nick Stowers, Justin Silvas, Ryan Stowers, Austun Stowers, Arthur Belmont, Matt Romero, and Tim Niles. Goalkeeper KJ Magwood-Morton recorded over 30 saves. The Wildcats’ record improves to 5-3-1.
