HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS

The Yucca Valley Lady Trojan basketball team pulled out a 50-47 win over league rival Big Bear last night in a first-round game at the Hesperia Christian Holiday tournament. Coach Jess Geeson said senior Annika Dendekker led the scoring with 15 points and Beasley finished with 12 points.

Yucca Valley Soccer played the Banning team to a 0-0 tie yesterday. Coach Jorge Rodriguez said the defense played tough, led by freshman Daniel Goddard; sophomore goalkeeper Devan Sterman had 10 saves. Freshman forward Daniel Vasquez had two shots on goal and sophomore forward Carlos Estrada also had two shots on goal.

The Twentynine Palms boys’ varsity Wildcats soccer team traveled to West Shores High School. The game ended with a 6-2 loss for the Wildcats. Coach Nathan Niles said solid play by juniors Antonio Ramirez and Trent Applegate on the back line anchored the defense.

The Twentynine Palms High School Lady Wildcats Soccer team traveled to take on West Shores High School Thursday evening. Sophomore Emma Yeager, Alexa Flores, junior Gabby Crank, sophomore Jasmine Vasquez, junior captain Cheyenne Hunsinger, senior Celeste Medina, and junior Lahla Sison each scored in the 7-1 victory. Senior Maranda Palmer had seven saves. Coach Sanchez said the Wildcat of the Week is Cheyenne Hunsinger. Against Banning and West Shores, she scored two goals and contributed two assists, helping the Cats to three straight wins.

In high school sports today, the Yucca Valley High School boys’ basketball team will host Coachella Valley High School at home. Tip-off is at 6 p.m.

Also tonight, the Joshua Springs boys’ basketball team will host Upland Christian Academy from Rancho Cucamonga at home. The game starts at 6:30.

In high school sports tomorrow, the Yucca Valley High School girls’ wrestling team will travel to Santa Ana High School. The meet begins at 9 a.m.
