The Yucca Valley Lady Trojan volleyball team travelled to Rancho Mirage High School to take on the Rattlers. The varsity team beat them, 3-1, head Coach Matt Jennings said. Leading the team were Ashley Priest, serving 16 for 17 with six aces,12 kills, and four blocks; Haley Rayburn with seven kills and two blocks; Jade Adair had 12 assists and four digs; Chloe Smith was 10 for 10 serving with 12 digs; Becky Messaros had 16 assists.
The junior varsity team fell 1-2. Leading the team were Emily Vigrass with four kills and one block; Kayla Harmon was 6 for 6 serving with three aces; Becca Dumas had five kills, 11 assists, served 14 for 14 with five aces; and Jackie Bohla had seven digs.
The varsity team will take on the senior football players in the annual Battle of the Ball tonight in Trojan gym at 6 p.m. The cost is $3. There will be a snack bar.
The Twentynine Palms High School Ladycats volleyball team lost to Desert Hot Springs in four sets yesterday. The Ladycats were led by sophomore Tatiyanna Mackall with three kills and one block. Senior Hanna Beard had four kills and three assists, followed by junior Courtney Stanford with three kills, and senior Marie Linton with three kills and one ace serve. Freshman Lindsey Scamman had two kills and four blocks for the night. Captain Koko Cabrera had one kill, three tips, one ace serve and 12 assists.
Yucca Valley High School tennis players are currently in the CIF League individual tournament. In singles, Rachel Green lost 2-8; Carrie Scofield won 8-5 in the first round and 8-5 in the second round. She will be playing today in the semifinals. In doubles: Aimee Frank and Cionne Lonergan won 8-1, they are in the semifinals; Dawn Rich and Moriah Goddard 8-0; they are in the semifinals. In the second tournament: in singles, Sadie Mecham lost 3-8. In doubles: Myriya Rameriz and Miranda Green won 9-7 and lost 6-10; Aislinn Gueltzow and Christa Jenkins 10-6 and in the championship game lost 3-10. They came in second place.
