Monday saw the Yucca Valley High School Lady Trojans volleyball team host Rancho Mirage in Trojan gym. The Varsity team won 3-1. Coach Matt Jennings said the team was led by Ashley Priest with nine kills and three blocks; Ashley Schwartz with seven kills and one block; Becky Messaros, 16 for 17 serving, and three aces; Alli Koedel 17 for 19 serving, and four aces.

The junior varsity team came out on top of the Lady Rattlers 2-0. Nichole Sugita had three kills; Becca Dumas was 13 for 14 serving, and three aces; Jackie Bolha was 12 for 12 serving with six aces and seven digs.

The Yucca Valley High School girls’ varsity tennis team beat Rancho Mirage 11-7. Coach Cindy Miller said in doubles Aimee Frank and Cionne Lonergan; Dawn Rich and Moriah Goddard; Aislinn Gultzow (Ash-Lynn Gilso) and Christa Jenkins won all three matches. In doubles that is called a sweep. In singles, Carrie Scofield, and Rachel Green each won one. The team is 6-0 in league and 8-1 overall.

Monday the Twentynine Palms High School girls’ tennis team defeated Desert Hot Springs by a score of 12-6. Coach Joe Ingram said singles players Jasmine Smith, Brianna Sears and Marissa Thomas dominated the match, sweeping all nine of their sets. In doubles, Makayla Ogdahl and Alex Morissey also swept all three matches. The Lady ’Cats are in third place in De Anza League play, with a record of 4 wins and 2 losses.
