The CIF Division 3AA 7th ranked Lady Trojans made ten first half 3 point FG’s jumping out to a 55-22 halftime lead to take over first place in the Desert Valley League over the CIF Division 2A 8th ranked Wildcats. The Lady Trojans improved to 3-0. The Wildcats fall to 3-1 on the season.
The Twentynine Palms High School Boys Varsity Tennis team traveled to Indio on Wednesday, May 12 to participate in the individual finals for the Desert Valley League. Twentynine Palms, Desert Mirage, Banning, Yucca Valley, Coachella Valley, Cathedral City, Desert Hot Springs, and Indio sent two doubles teams and two singles players to participate in the finals. The doubles team of Troy Silva and Titus Bosch went all the way through and won first place in the Desert Valley League for doubles earning them a spot to qualify for CIF Individual doubles.
The double teams for Twentynine Palms High School were Troy Silva/Titus Bosch and Hunter Branch/Daniel Hunyh. The single players were Nhan Nguyen and Jonray Mendoza. Nhan won his first match but lost his second. Jonray had a tough first round match and lost. Hunter and Daniel won their first doubles match and lost their second.
The Twentynine Palms High School Ladycats Varsity tennis Team traveled to Duarte to face the Falcons for 1st round CIF action on Wednesday, May 12. The Ladycats came away with the win 12 to 6.
In singles action, Anaid Montero and Makenna Whitfield each won two of their matches while Natalia Henry won one of hers. In doubles action, the teams of Mariah Banerjee/Madi Soster and Isable Plummer/Danesa Rife both swept all three of their sets while the team of Natalie Plummer/Carly Bateman won one of their sets. This win earned the Ladycats a chance to continue in the CIF Team Finals. They will play a match on Friday for the second round of CIF finals. The Girls will also travel to Banning today (Thursday) for their League Individual Finals.
Twentynine Palms HS Track and Field hosted the Yucca Valley Trojans yesterday in their 6th Desert Valley League matchup. The Wildcats dominated the Trojans by a score of 72-26 and the Lady Wildcats were victorious 62-32.
Mya Bullion led all scorers with 16 points winning the 100m hurdles, Long Jump, 300m hurdles and taking the bronze in the discus throw.
Senior distance runner Roberto Gutierrez led the boys, scoring 11 points with two first place finishes in the 800m and 3200m and earning the bronze in the 1600m.
Next week the Wildcats will host its fifth and final meet of the season against the Banning Broncos. Prior to the meet the coaches will recognize and thank the senior class of 2021.
