The Yucca Valley High School Lady Trojans volleyball team travelled up the hill to take on the Big Bear Bears yesterday. The varsity team fell in three straight sets. Coach Matt Jennings said the Bears came out swinging and it proved to be too much for Yucca Valley. Despite the loss, the Trojans serving really improved—from 85 percent to 92 percent. Leading the team was Karson Scaccianoce going 7 for 7 and Becky Messaros, 7 for 7. Ashley Priest added four kills and three blocks to the team totals.
The junior varsity team fell also in straight sets. Leading the team were: Becca Dumas 6 for 7 serving; Jackie Bolha 11 for 12; Kyely Beatty added three kills and two blocks; and Kelcie Vigallon had two blocks.
The Twentynine Palms High School Lady ’Cats volleyball team traveled to Rancho Mirage yesterday and beat the Rattlers. Coach Missy Franz said the Lady ’Cats were led by junior Courtney Stanford with six kills and senior Hanna Beard with five kills and one block. Sophomore Tatiyanna Mackall had four kills, four blocks and three ace serves for the night. Senior captain Koko Cabrera had four ace serves, two tips, one block, and eight assists for the night.
The Yucca Valley High School varsity girls’ tennis team beat Big Bear yesterday 11-7. Coach Cindy Miller said outstanding single was Carrie Scofield. Outstanding doubles players were Dawn Rich and Moriah Goddard, Aimee Frank and Cionne Lonergan, and Aislinn Gueltzow and Christa Jenkins.
Monday, the Twentynine Palms High School girls’ tennis team defeated Rancho Mirage by a score of 12-6. Led by team captain Makayla Ogdahl and partner Alex Morrissey, Coach Joe Ingram said the doubles teams swept all nine sets in a row. In singles, Jasmine Smith and Marissa Thomas secured three more wins. The Wildcats are now 2-1 in De Anza league and 4-3 overall.
Coming up in high school sports tomorrow, the Yucca Valley High School volleyball team will host the Desert Hot Springs Golden Eagles at home. First serve is at 4:30.
