HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS

The Yucca Valley High School varsity volleyball team won against the Twentynine Palms High School Wildcats in three sets (25-14, 25-22, 25-14). Coach Darrell Sterling said, “We always enjoy playing our rivals Lady Cats who are a good group of girls led by Coach Missy and Melissa.” 

The Yucca Valley junior varsity played a hard and close call match but lost in two sets (21-25, 20-25). Sterling is proud of how junior varsity has improved and came together as a team throughout the season.
He added, “It has been a great season with its ups and downs. The girls have been learning how to play through the chaos and to overcome it.  We are looking forward to see what our matches will be like for CIF. CIF matches will be starting October 16 with a to be determined location and time.”

Coach Missy Bond said the Twentynine Palms Ladycats were led by freshman Meleane Taufu with four kills, two blocks and two assists. Seniors Lea Speer, Gabby Mackall, Alaina Thomas and junior Riley King had three kills each. Gabby Mackall had nine assists for the night.
