HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS

The Yucca Valley High School Lady Trojans varsity softball team came home with a hard-earned win against Rancho Mirage. The nail-biter game ended with a score of 2-0, after the Trojans scored in an extra eighth inning.

Senior Jackie Bolha walked, and a double from sophomore Rylie Rohr brought Bolha in to score. A second insurance point was scored after a sacrifice bunt by Senior Madison Smith, which brought Rohr in for a second run.

Junior pitcher Haley Smith allowed no runs and struck out 16. The Twentynine Palms High School LadyCat softball team traveled to Desert Hot Springs Thursday afternoon. Twentynine Palms won, 16-0, in 5 innings. The LadyCats’ league record improved to 4-3 and 8-3 overall.
 
The Twentynine Palms track and field traveled to Thermal for a league meet against the massive Coachella Valley High School. Both teams came up short, but the meet was not without highlights.

For the LadyCats, Shaniah Newby scored 10 points with a double victory in the 100m and 200m races. She earned a season record with a time of 12.92 in the 100 meters. Jayla Hogan earned two second places in both hurdle events. Mallory Hutchinson scored in all four of her events earning personal records in the triple jump, long jump, and high jump. She led the team scoring 11 points.

Isaiah Castaneda earned first place in the 100m with a hand time of 11.23 and a second place in the 200m with a time of 23.1, his personal record. Tucker Thornburg ran a personal best of 4:51.1 in the 1600m earning second, and pitched in three more points with a 3200m time of 11:11.1. Top scorer of the day with 10 points for the Wildcats was Adam Mapuatuli in the throws with a mark of 131'5 in the discus and 43'4 in the
shot put.

The Twentynine Palms High School boys’ varsity tennis team hosted the Trojans of Yucca Valley on Wednesday. The Wildcats came away with the
win 10 to 8. The Wildcats improve to 5 and 1 in league.

In singles action, the Wildcats were led by Brett Hope, who swept all three sets, while Johnathan Simmons won one of his sets. In doubles action, the Wildcats were led by the team of Donald Albers/Dylan Smith, who swept all three of their sets, while the team of Mac Miller/Sean Sears won two of their sets, and the team of Gabe Rangel/Titus Bosch won one of their sets.

In high school sports tomorrow, the Yucca Valley High School track and field team will travel away to compete at San Jacinto High School. The
meet starts at 8 a.m.
