The Twentynine Palms High School Wildcats golf team hosted Apple Valley High School for the home opener of the 2018 season in a preseason match
yesterday afternoon at Desert Winds golf course. Coach Gary Bell said the Wildcats came away with a win, 246 to 253. This was the first win against Apple Valley in the five years that the two teams have been competing in preseason matches.
Standouts for the Wildcats were Gabriel Villescas, who shot 46, and freshman Sebastian Provost-Haney with a 48. The win brings the Wildcats to a 1-and-1 standing after a loss against Xavier Prep School last week. The team will travel to Apple Valley next Tuesday for the rematch. Bell said, “This was a really good win against a traditionally tough team. I am encouraged by the dedication the kids have shown in preparing for this season. We hope to build momentum and compete for another league championship.”
