The Twentynine Palms Wildcat varsity softball team opened the 2018 season at home against the Cathedral City Lions Wednesday. The Wildcats won 18-7.
Katie Steffins pitched all seven innings and had six strike outs; she also scored three runs. Freshman Mikayla Cable also scored three runs with
two triples. Senior Captain Jasmine Rodriguez had two hits and scored two runs.
The junior varsity team won 23-3.
“Our team played good defense at times and the bats really came alive today,” Coach Dan Mintz said.
The Ladycats play again at noon tomorrow in the 2018 Palm Springs Invitational Softball Tournament. Their first game will be against Palo Verde High School.
In high school sports today, the Twentynine Palms High School baseball team will travel away to Bermuda Dunes to play Desert Christian Academy. First pitch is at 3:30 p.m.
