The Yucca Valley Lady Trojan basketball team advanced to the semifinals of the Redlands East Valley Invitational tournament with a 57-51 victory over the Temescal Canyon Titans last night in Redlands.
Coach Jess Geeson said senior Savannah Beasley spearheaded the attack with a game-high 19 points, along with eight assists. Senior Zena Yakimow added 14 points and 12 rebounds, while junior Angie Reutgen pumped in eight points for the Trojans.
The win set up a matchup with host Redlands East Valley Friday night at 7:30 p.m. for a spot in Saturday’s championship game.
Yucca Valley High School varsity boys’ soccer played a preseason game versus Desert Christian High School; the final score was a 3-to-3 tie.
Coach Jorge Rodriguez said sophomore Truman Powell scored a goal from an assist from Junior Raymond Pliego; junior Aldo Villalba scored one goal, and sophomore Alan Campos scored one goal in the second half. Defender of the match honor goes to senior Sebastian Ryan; player of the match was Alan Campos who played inspired and showed great leadership.
Coming up in high school sports today, the Twentynine Palms High School girls’ basketball team will host Banning High School at home. Tip-off is at 6 p.m.
