In high school news, last night the Yucca Valley High School Lady Trojan basketball team ran into a powerful Valley View squad from Moreno Valley and took a 75-35 loss in a third-round game in the West Valley tournament. Coach Jess Geeson said junior Angie Reutgen led the Lady Trojans with 14 points, while seniors Kiley Pitts and Zena Yakimow each added six points. The Yucca Valley girls finish the tournament today with a 3 p.m. game against another strong team, the Yucaipa Thunderbirds.
The Twentynine Palms girls’ basketball team evened their early season record at two wins, two losses, with their victory over San Jacinto yesterday, 59-44. Coach Timothy Stanford said Lindsey Scamman is this week’s Wildcat of the Week. Along with Lindsey’s fine play on the court, she is a positive leader for our young team and an inspiration in the classroom.
Lindsey Scamman turned in her fourth outstanding game of the season with 25 points, shooting 59 percent from the floor, 26 rebounds, 13 blocks to match the number on her jersey, six assists and two steals. Lindsey is averaging 28 points per game, 23.2 rebounds per game, and 9.5 blocks per game. Lindsey’s triple double in points, blocks, and rebounds is her second on the season. Her first triple double was in the other win against Aquinas were she had 23 points, 26 rebounds, and 12 blocks.
Coming up in high school sports today, the Yucca Valley High School boys’ and girls’ soccer teams will travel to Palm Desert to play Xavier Prep. The girls’ game starts at 4; the boys, at 6 p.m.
Also today, the Twentynine Palms High School girls’ soccer team will travel to Desert Hot Springs to participate in the DMHS girls soccer tourney. The tournament starts at 2 p.m.
