Both Yucca Valley High School Lady Trojan Volleyball teams beat the Rancho Mirage Rams in three sets last night. Coach Darrell Sterling said the undefeated Varsity Trojan squad has clinched the DeAnza League title at 9-0 with one more game, Tuesday, October 24 against Desert Mirage. He is hoping to finish up the season with a league record of 10-0 saying, “That will be a great accomplishment for our program. We have clinched the League but to do it with a shut out would be the icing on the cake.”
Leading the night in kills was sophomore EJ Day with 13; juniors Riley Vallo and Julia Conrad both had nine kills; senior middle hitter Zena Yakimow had six kills and two solo blocks. Freshman middle blocker Katie Alexander had two kills along with junior middle blocker Emillie Griffith.
Senior setter Alessa Luckino led with 25 assists. Senior Libero Becca Dumas had 15 digs.
The Twentynine Palms High School Ladycats beat the Desert Mirage High School Rams in five sets to maintain fourth place in the league at 5-4.
The Ladycats were led by senior Lindsey Scammon who had 23 kills, four solo blocks, and one assisted block. Junior Cheryl Jensen nine kills. Junior Gabby Mackall had eight ace serves, four kills and one assisted block. Junior Nicole Elmer had four kills, one solo block and one assisted block. Senior Hope Culver had three kills from the back court. Lea Speer had seven kills for the night.
In high school sports today, the Yucca Valley High School Trojan football team will travel away to play Rancho Mirage High School. Yucca Valley High School is second in DeAnza League play at 1-1 and 6-1 overall.
The Twentynine Palms High School High School Wildcat football team will travel away to Thermal to play Desert Mirage High School. Twentynine Palms is fourth in the league with 1-1, 5-2 overall.
Kick off for both games is at 7 p.m.
Also today, the Yucca Valley High School cross country team will participate in the Mount San Antonio College meet, starting at noon.
And the Yucca Valley girls’ tennis team will host Big Bear at home; first serve is at 3:15.
