The Yucca Valley High School girls’ tennis team lost to Xavier Prep at home Thursday, 14-4. Coach Cindy Miller said, “Xavier Prep is a really good team” and added that Yucca Valley is a very young team who did well against Xavier Prep in doubles. Katie Brattain went 1-6, 1-6, and 4-6, while the doubles teams of Savannah Beasley and Kloee Scaccianoce won 2-6, 6-2, 6-1, and Spril Bratcher and McKenzi Monical won 0-6, 6-3, 6-4. Their next match will be against Indio High School on Wednesday.
The Twentynine Palms High School Ladycat volleyball team lost Thursday in three hard fought sets to Indio’s Shadow Hills High School Knights. They were led by Jr Gabby Mackall with three kills, one block and nine assists. Senior Lindsey Scamman had three kills and four blocks. Senior Jasmine Rodriguez had two kills and two blocks. Junior Lea Speer had two kills. Senior Cheryl Jensen one kill and one block and two ace serves. Junior Breanna Collins had two ace serves. Senior Hope Culver continues to hold down the back court with hustle and finesse. Coach Missy Bond is extremely proud of the improvement from their first game to now. “It’s coming together,” she said. The Lady Cats are 1-3 overall and travel to Palm Springs on Tuesday.
The Twentynine Palms High School Ladycat varsity tennis team hosted the Knights of Shadow Hills High School from Indio Thursday, and came away with the victory, 10 to 8. The Ladycats were led in singles action by Alicia Gilchrist, who swept all three of her sets, while Tamesha Jefferson won two of her matches. In doubles action, the team of Danny Morrissey and Alexis Soster swept all three of their sets, while the teams of Emma Romano and Bella Crank, and Sierra Crippen and Breanna Lowe each won one set. The Ladycats travel to Cathedral City on Friday.
