The Yucca Valley High School Lady Trojan volleyball team beat the San Jacinto Tigers in three sets last night. Coach Darrell Sterling said there were no individual stars; the girls played as a team, spreading the kills and digs around. Sterling said, “The Trojans played exceptional for being apart for a couple months, and I’m a proud coach knowing that my girls worked incredible together tonight. If we continue to play hard and communicate well, we will be unbeatable.”
Outside hitter EJ Day had 8 kills, 3 blocks, 4 digs, 3 serves aces and 15 assists.
Middle blocker Zena Yakimow had 5 kills,4 blocks, 2 digs and 3 service aces.
Outside hitter Julia Conrad had 5 kills, 2 blocks and 3 serves aces.
Opposite hitter Riley Valle had 5 kills and 2 service aces.
Opposite hitter Lily Murillo had 2 kills on both balls set to her.
Setter Alyssa Lucking had 30 assists.
Libero Becca Dumas dug 30 balls.
The Twentynine Palms High School Ladycat volleyball team took on the Rajahs from Indio at home last night. The Ladycats won in four sets. The Ladycats are now 2-1 overall and take on the Shadow Hills Knights on Thursday in Casey Gymnasium.
Coach Missy Bond said leading the Ladycats were senior Lindsey Scamman with nine kills, five blocks and one ace serve. Senior Cheryl Jensen had three kills and five ace serves. Senior Jasmine Rodriguez stepped up and had three kills and one block. Senior defense specialist had two kills and four ace serves. Junior Gabby Mackall had two kills, one ace serve, and 11 assists. Lea Speer Dominated the service line, chalking up five ace serves for the night.
The Twentynine Palms High School girls’ varsity tennis team hosted the Arabs of Indio on Monday. Coach Bill Shay said the Ladycats lost the battle 8 to 10. The Ladycats host Shadow Hills on Wednesday.
In singles action, Alicia Gilchrist won two of her sets. In doubles action, the Ladycats were led by the team of Danny Morrissey and Alexis Soster, who swept all three of their sets, while the team of Emma Romano and Bell Crank won two of their sets. The team of Soniyah Solwazi and Rosalind Carrllo won one of their sets.
