The Yucca Valley High School girls’ wrestling team placed third in the top five of over 30 teams at Esperanza High School Saturday. Coach Larry Giron said both Fernanda Macias and Nichole Smith placed third and Cheyenne Hallabrin placed fifth.
The boys’ varsity team had Trevor Scott make it to the finals, getting second place in a one-point match for first. Placing third was Andrew Reyes and placing fourth was Levi Lehman.
In high school sports, today, the Yucca Valley High School boys’ and girls’ basketball and soccer teams will play Desert Hot Springs. Boys’ soccer and boys’ basketball will play at home in Yucca Valley; soccer at 5 p.m. and basketball at 6 p.m. The girls’ soccer and basketball teams will travel away to Desert Hot Springs; soccer starts at 5, basketball at 6.
The Twentynine Palms High School boys’ and girls’ soccer and basketball teams will play Rancho Mirage High School. The girls’ soccer team will play at home, with the match starting at 5 p.m. All other games will be played away in Rancho Mirage. The boys’ soccer and girls’ basketball games start at 5 p.m.; the boys’ basketball game starts at 6:30 p.m.
And the Joshua Springs boys’ and girls’ basketball teams will host Mesa Grande Academy at home. The girls start at 5 p.m.; the boys, at 6:30.
