HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS

The Yucca Valley High School Trojan baseball team hosted Desert Mirage High School in a league game Thursday and won, 9 to 5.  The Rams struck first with two runs in the second inning, capitalizing on a couple of errors.  In the bottom of the second inning, a single by junior Zach Schoenborn was followed by an RBI single by junior Eric Hale, getting the Trojans on the board. The Trojans blew the game open in the third inning with a triple by senior Jared Hudson, a single by sophomore Dezmond Delgado, and a bas-clearing homerun by sophomore Anthony Gutierrez.  In the same inning, a double by senior Luis Estrada led to a RBI hit by Hale. The Trojans stayed hot with a double by Delgado and another two-run homerun by Gutierrez, which was followed by a standup double by Schoenborn. Besides his two home runs, Gutierrez also pitched six innings with nine strikeouts for the win. The game was iced by freshman Clay Smith who closed in the seventh.

Coming up in high school sports tomorrow, the Yucca Valley High School baseball and softball teams will travel away to Indio to play Shadow Hills High School. Softball begins at 3:15, baseball at 5 p.m.
