HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL, TENNIS RESULTS

The Yucca Valley High School Trojan football team shut out Excelsior Charter School Friday night. The Trojan won the non-conference away game by a score of 32-0. Players of the game include Lucas Lopez for overall and offensive player, Noah Rodriguez as the defensive player, and Elmil Featherson on special teams.

The Joshua Springs Lightning football team also won their non-conference game against Lucerne Valley Friday night by a score of 48-12.  

The Twentynine Palms Wildcats recorded their second consecutive defensive shut out, defeating Indio 41-0 in a non-league game Friday night on the road. The Wildcats were led by junior quarterback D’Shaun Barrett, who threw four touchdown passes and ran another score in from one yard out. Senior Derek Sutherland returned a punt return 73 yards for another score. Senior Eneliko Tuli scored two touchdowns, one on a 6-yard play and the final score on a 51-yard reception. Adam Bell and Gunnar Moss both scored touchdowns and played outstanding throughout the contest. Defensively, Michael Clark, Hunter Tygart, and Caleb Roy led the Wildcats in total tackles. Clark had nine tackles, a quarterback sack and two forced fumbles. Roy and Tygart combined for 19 tackles. Tygart had a blocked punt and a fumble recovery. The Wildcats also forced six turnovers on the game, including three fumbles and three interceptions. Derek Sutherland had two interceptions, and sophomore Isaiah Castaneda had a key interception in the second quarter. K.J. Magwood also had an outstanding defensive game and forced a key fumble on special teams, recording eight tackles in the contest. The Wildcats will host their first home game of the season against Xavier Prep this Friday. 
 

The Twentynine Palms High School Ladycat varsity tennis team hosted the Lions of Cathedral City Friday. The Ladycats came away with a decisive win over the Lions, 16-2. In singles action, the Ladycats were led by Alicia Gilchrist, who swept all three of her sets, and Lynn Meza-Hernandez and Kaitlynn Black winning their first match of the season. In doubles action, the Ladycats were led by Sadie Brown and Samantha Crippen, who won two of their sets while the teams of Samantha Brookins/Sierra Crippen, Rhiannon Bagley/Madison Wheeler, Emma Romano/Cassey Moncada, and Shaleita Chestnut/Saniyah Solwazi came away with their first wins of the season. The Ladycats are now 3-0 on the season. The Ladycats host Banning tonight at 3:15 p.m.
