The Yucca Valley High School Trojans lost to the Big Bear Bears Friday with a final score of 41-19. Coach Andrew Amosa said standouts on offense were sophomore Lucas Lopez who rushed for 179 yards, and junior Mariano “Puda” Martinez, who broke out on a 65-yard touchdown run. Defensive standouts were senor Larry Williamson with 12 tackles and junior Travis Shartel with six tackles and an interception.
The young JV Trojans improved their record to 4-0 with a hard fought 44-34 win over Big Bear. Standout of the game was freshman running back Caleb Robinson with over 200 yards rushing.
Homecoming for the Trojans is next week week against Desert Hot Springs High School.
The Twentynine Palms High School Wildcats football team defeated visiting Rancho Mirage in their homecoming game 35-17, to open DeAnza league play. Coach Ernest Martinez said senior quarterback Jimmy Shragge ran for an 18-yard touchdown and threw for 273 yards and three touchdowns on the evening. Beayahn Carrllo rushed for 105 yards on 24 carries, Demetrius Holmes caught four passes for 101 yards. Outstanding defensive players included seniors Andrew Wilson, Kyle Hope, Colton Myers, and Shane Estrada. Wilson had an outstanding game with 10 tackles and two sacks. Myers, Hope, and Estrada teamed up for 21 total tackles two sacks, three tackles for a loss and an interception. Junior Eneliko Tuli, and fellow sophomore linebacker K.J. Magwood had 18 tackles and three quarterback sacks. The Wildcats secondary of Kole Green, Demetrius Holmes, Travaun Morrow, and Derek Sutherland only allowed eight completions during the contest. The 4-0 Wildcats, now ranked second in their division, will travel to Apple Valley to face Granite Hills High School in their final non-league contest of the year. The frosh-soph won the earlier contest 50-0, and is 4-0 as well this season.
