The Yucca Valley High School Trojans Football team fought hard in a 7-22 loss over Bonanza High School out of Las Vegas. Coach Andrew Amosa said the Trojans’ defense was stout all night, and quarterback Jake Moore had the lone touchdown for the Trojans. The Trojans will travel to Indio High School this week and looking for their second win of the season.
The Twentynine Palms varsity Wildcats opened the 2015 season winning 40-7 over the visiting Rajahs of Indio Friday night. On their opening drive of the second half, senior running back Beayahn Carrllo raced 48 yards to make the score 40–0. Carrllo had an outstanding game with 126 yards rushing on 16 carries. The Wildcats’ 28-point second quarter came through the air, as senior quarterback Jimmy Shragge tossed three touchdown passes to speedy wide out Demetrius Holmes. The senior wide out caught touchdown passes of 7, 24, and 6 yards. The Cats forced five turnovers on the night, including a 58-yard interception return for a score by senior Kole Green. Shragge had a great passing night, completing 13-of-16 passes for 125 yards and three touchdowns. Coach Ernest Martinez said defensive standouts for the ‘Cats were Arlen Myers, who led the team in tackles and forced two turnovers. Senior defensive tackles Andrew Wilson and Shane Estrada played extremely well. Middle linebacker Kyle Hope and outside linebacker Eneliko Tuli had dominating games, forcing three more turnovers. Tuli had an interception, and batted a slant pass up in the air as Green took the interception and raced 58 yards on the return.
