The Yucca Valley High School Varsity Trojan football team lost to Shadow Hills High School Friday night 47-7. Coach Andrew Amosa said the Trojans touchdown came from quarterback William Perrance. The Trojans were led by Creston Cole on the ground with 70 yards and junior Tommy Gieger had three receptions for 35 yards. The defense was led by junior Larry Williamson with 17 tackles and sophomore Noah Rodriguez had eight. Mike McKay and Kevin Colberg also had eight tackles. Trojans host Rancho Mirage High School for this Friday’s Homecoming game.
The Yucca Valley High School junior varsity Trojans defeated the Knights 22-18. Coach Tim Cannavo said defensively, Blade Hildebrand forced a fumble, recovered a fumble, knocked two passes down and intercepted another. EJ Featherstone and Andrew Sanchez both had 10 tackles. On offense, Lucas Lopez carried 19 times for 138 yards. Jake Moore also had over 100 yards rushing and a touchdown. Daniel Hoover carried for a touchdown and Jake Moore passed to Blade Hildebrand for the last touchdown.
The Twentynine Palms High School Varsity Wildcats lost a key De Anza league matchup to the Big Bear Bears at home Friday night. A 21-point fourth quarter broke the game open and the ’Cats fell 34-3. Coach Ermnest Martinez said junior Colton Myers led the team in tackles on the defensive side, followed by Dylan Martinez and Andrew Wilson who had six tackles each. Wilson, along with the ’Cats leading rusher, Beayahnn Carrllo, left the game early in the first half with an ankle injury. Carrllo had 37 yards after one series of offense before missing the rest of the contest. Jimmy Shragge had five tackles on defense and passed for 148 yards. Tyler McGahuey hauled in five receptions for 61 yards to the lead the team. Demetrius Holmes and Jayvon Johnson teamed up for four receptions for 65 yards.
The Frosh-Soph ’Cats won a decisive game over the Bears in the early game, winning 41-0. Key standouts were Eneliko Tuli, Tygart Hunter, Briton Williams, K.J. Magwood, Logan Hardy, and Gunner Moss. Rodell Laranang scored his first touchdown of the season on a long run, to finish off the scoring.
The ’Cats will host the Eagles of Desert Hot Springs Friday for Homecoming, and then host Desert Mirage for Senior Night the following week. The Frosh-Soph will begin play at 4:15 followed by the Varsity at 7:00 p.m.
Coming up in high school sports tomorrow, the Joshua Springs girls’ volleyball team will travel away to Desert Christian. First serve is at 5:30.
