HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL AND SPORTS SCHEDULES

The Twentynine Palms High School Wildcats football team opened the 2014 De Anza league season with a 30-22 win over the newest De Anza league school, Rancho Mirage. Coach Ernest Martinez said key standouts from Friday’s game were Beayahn Carrllo with 215 yards on 17 carries, and Jimmy Shragge with 76 yards rushing and a touchdown run. Demetrius Holmes had two key receptions, and snared an interception to preserve the win. Andrew Wilson led the team in tackles with 10 and had two quarterback sacks. Josh Alderson, Kyle Hope, Dylan Martinez, and Shane Estrada played outstanding defense and teamed up for six other quarterback sacks on the night. Hope and outside linebacker Arlen Myers teamed up for 17 tackles as well.

The Twentynine Palms frosh-soph Wildcats played outstanding and won again thanks to a fourth quarter comeback. The come-from-behind-win gives the frosh-soph a 3-1 record after wining the game 10-7. The ’Cats blocked a 30-yard field goal attempt in the final minutes to preserve the win. Outstanding players were Eneliko Tuli, Ryan Stowers, Derek Sutherland, K.J. Magwood, Quentin Griffin, Gunner Moss, and Bryton Williams.

The Yucca Valley High School varsity Trojan football team lost their opening league play at Big Bear 43-20. Coach Andrew Amosa said senior quarterback William Perrance came out the second half with a 80-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Sean Wallace. Perrance and Creston Cole added each had a rushing touchdown to finish the game. The defense was led by senior Mike McKay with 12 tackles and junior Larry Williamson with nine tackles. Taylor Smith posted eight tackles and sophomore Dylan Deluna had a sack for the Trojans.

The Yucca Valley High School junior varsity football team remains undefeated with a trouncing of the Baby Bears, 33-6. Coach Tim Cannavo said Lucas Lopez returned a punt 67 yards for one touchdown and had 144 yards and two more touchdowns rushing. Daniel Hoover rushed for 122 yards and a touchdown. On defense, Joseph Jennings led the way with 19 tackles. Daniel Hoover had 15 tackles and EJ Featherstone contributed with 14 tackles.

Joshua Springs Lightning football traveled to Van Nuys Friday night, defeating the Fulton College Prep Jaguars 56-0. The Lightning racked up eight touchdowns by five different players. Coaches say Jeff Bachman was the leading rusher for Joshua Springs, taking a 67-yard touchdown on his way to 81 yards total. The defensive highlight came via Kyler Dimoff, as an errant Jaguar throw resulted in a 73 yard interception return. The Lightning, playing 8-man football, is now 4-0 on the year

Coming up in high school sports tomorrow, the Joshua Springs Christian School volleyball team will play Baptist Christian School in Hemet. First serve is at 5:30.
