Big honors for a Twentynine Palms High School football player. Senior Derek Sutherland has been named the Cal Hi Sports Defensive Player of the Week. Principal Justin Monical said Derek Sutherland currently leads the state of California and is third in the country with nine interceptions for the season after he added two to his total last week against Desert Hot Springs in a 57-24 win. Sutherland leads the Wildcats into what could be the game of the year in the De Anza League against Rancho Mirage High School in Rancho Mirage tomorrow.
