HI-DESERT WATER TO SUPPLY LIST OF SEWER HOOK-UP CONTRACTORS

At last night’s meeting of the Hi-Desert Water District board of directors, the directors discussed compiling a list of contractors for residents to use to connect to the Yucca Valley sewer project, and a sewer assessment loan program. Managing editor Tami Roleff was there and files this report…

When the Yucca Valley sewer project is near completion, residents will have to connect their homes or businesses to the main sewer line. The Hi-Desert Water District plans to help residents by providing a list of contractors who can make the connections. But the Hi-Desert Water District board of directors wants it made clear that the water district is not endorsing any contractors who are on the list of approved contractors to use when connecting to the sewer project. The board discussed an application that contractors will have to complete if they want to be added on to the water district’s list of approved contractors. The district will start advertising for contractors soon, and the list will be sent out to property owners in January, and will be updated monthly.
Residents who apply for a loan through the water district to help with the cost of connecting to the sewer district will be required to use one of the contractors on the approved list.

Next, the board discussed the district’s sewer assessment loan program. The district has set aside $200,000 to provide financial assistance to low-income property owners. To be eligible for the 10-year renewable loan, which will be applied toward the owner’s sewer assessment, property owners must live in a single-family home in Phase 1 and have an income of $25,000 or less per year. Individual loans will be capped at $200 per year for 10 years with a 1 percent interest rate.

Residents who would like to have photos taken of their water-wise landscaping should contact Kayleigh Frater at 760-365-8333, to be included in the water district’s promotional materials sent out to customers.
Board members saw a new video of the progress of the sewer plant under construction.
