The Hi-Desert Water District’s board of directors will discuss at its meeting tonight how the district can help low-income residents pay for their connections to the upcoming sewer. The district can set up a financial assistance program by earmarking a portion of the property tax revenues it receives toward grants or loans, or a combination of the two. Low-income residents also qualify for grants up to $7,500, or a 1-percent loan up to $20,000 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. In other business, the district will be asked to approve the purchase of two Dodge 4-wheel pickup trucks from Yucca Valley Chrysler, for about $58,000. The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. in district offices at Inca Trail and Highway 62 in Yucca Valley.
