HI-DESERT WATER HEARS ABOUT NEED FOR CONSTRUCTION MANAGER

The Hi-Desert Water District Board met in regular session last night. Managing Editor Tami Roleff says the meeting centered on the hiring of a Sewer treatment plant design and construction manager….
The Hi-Desert Water District Board of Directors heard a presentation about choosing an engineering firm and construction manager for its treatment plant at its meeting last night. Last year, the Board decided to go with a progressive design/build plan, in which an engineering and construction firm will work together to design and build the treatment plant. This reduces the risk to the water district of cost increases for errors and omissions in the plans. The engineering firm will present updated costs when it presents plans at different stages of completion, and the Board can sign a contract with the firm at any time in the process—whether the plans are 30 percent complete, up to 100 percent. The Board was told a construction manager was critical to ensuring that timelines and budgets are met. The Board will be selecting a project manager for its wastewater treatment plant at its meeting on February 18.
