HI-DESERT WATER DISTRICT TO RELOCATE NATIVE PLANTS FOR SEWER CONSTRUCTION

The Hi-Desert Water District board of directors discussed relocating native plants while the sewer collection system is under construction. Managing editor Tami Roleff explains what they decided…
As part of the sewer easement agreements with property owners, the Hi-Desert Water District agreed to return the easements where the sewer pipes will be installed to the same or better condition. Some of these easements have native plants on them: 54 Joshua trees, 36 Mojave yuccas, and 23 beavertail and hedgehog cactus. At last night’s meeting, the water district’s board of directors authorized the expenditure of no more than $67,350 to move the native plants. Horizon Tree Transplanting Inc will either move the native plants to another spot on the resident’s property, where it will stay, or will move the plant to a nursery off site and then replace it in the same location after the sewer pipe has been installed. The decision on where the native plants will end up is up to the property owner.
In other business, the board approved an additional $210,000 for purchases not in the budget, including $30,000 for a new electronic monument sign.
