The Hi-Desert Water District, which currently buys its water from Mojave Water Agency, is always looking for new sources of water. Managing editor Tami Roleff says last night, the board agreed to look into buying some water from a new source…
The Hi-Desert Water District said it was approached by a group of individuals who were interested in selling water from Old Woman Springs Ranch to the district. Recent contaminant testing shows that the water at the ranch has higher levels of chromium-6, nitrates, and total dissolved solids than the water it currently buys from the Mojave Water Agency. Board members insisted that the owners of the ranch water must filter the water, not the water district. Board President Bob Stadum summed up the board’s thoughts on the alternative water source:
“If the owners or water providers from Old Woman Springs Ranch have water available and can give us a meaningful discount over what we get from the state through the Mojave Water Agency, we’d be interested in purchasing filtered water.”
And with a 4-0 vote, with Director Dan Munsey absent, the board directed staff to look into the option of buying the Old Woman Springs Ranch water.
