After several residents questioned why the Hi-Desert Water District was once again discussing at its meeting last night whether the sewer project should be built by in-house workers or by outside contractors, Director Sarann Graham explained that she wanted to discuss the issue again after several people had approached her since the board had made its decision. “Just make sure that we didn’t miss anything. Personally, I don’t believe we missed anything. But I felt I had a responsibility after all these people came to me and said ‘Did you think about this? Did you think about that?’” Graham suggested forming an ad hoc committee to fully explore the two options. Director Dan Munsey was concerned about opening the matter up to reconsideration. “At best, at best, this will save about $4 to $6 a month of someone’s bill. At worst, it could cost us the whole assessment vote because of our inability to demonstrate to the public that we know exactly what we are doing. So these are my concerns.” The Board finally agreed to take no action on the issue, but to leave it open to perhaps revisit the option during Phase 2 of the sewer project.
