HI-DESERT WATER DISTRICT DISCUSSES LOW-INTEREST LOAN CUSTOMER SEWER HOOK-UPS

The Hi-Desert Water District had a preliminary discussion at its regular meeting last night about how the district would secure a low-interest loan from the State Revolving Fund, that would go to Yucca Valley residents to help them connect to the sewer system. The loan will go directly to the water district, which would then turn around and offer low-interest loans to its customers. The customers would secure the loan by agreeing to an assessment on their property taxes which would then be paid to the water district. General Manager Ed Muzik said the state would forgive $8 million of the loan to the water district, which would lower customers’ assessments. In other news, the sewer project had its first accident yesterday morning, when an MTA bus making a turn hit a 40-foot piece of iron on a forklift and knocked it off at Palomar and Arcadia Trail. The good news is that no one was hurt, although the bus’s windshield was broken. Several directors also commented that motorists are driving too fast through the construction zones, and some are ignoring the signs prohibiting through traffic.
