The Hi-Desert Water District Board met last night. Among highlights of the meeting was a change in the Phase 1 boundaries for the upcoming Yucca Valley sewer system project. Managing editor Tami Roleff explains…
Residents of the Country Club area of Yucca Valley will no longer be included in Phase 1 of the proposed sewer project. The Hi-Desert Water District Board of Directors voted 3-0, with Bob Stadum absent, and Sarann Graham who recused herself, to change the boundaries at its special meeting last night. A cost-benefit analysis of the neighborhood found that including the 357 sewer connections would increase the estimated construction cost per connection from more than $26,000 to $48,000, an increase of $22,000 per connection. The neighborhood is quite rocky, which means that construction of the sewer mains would be quite costly and the trenches would not be dug as deep to lower construction costs, which means that grinder pumps—which are the homeowner’s responsibility—would be required for many, if not most, of the homes. Another change to the boundaries was to include a neighborhood north of Little League Drive in Phase 1.
