At last night’s special meeting of the Hi-Desert Water District Board of Directors, the board held a public hearing on adjusting the assessments for properties that changed their classifications within Phase 1 of the Yucca Valley sewer project. For example, some properties that were vacant lots when they were assessed years ago now have houses or businesses built on them, and others may have been subdivided. The changes in assessments will increase revenue to the water district by more than $1.4 million. The board intends to use the new revenue to pay down the cost of the sewer system to lower all property owners’ assessments.
