Hi-Desert Water District board members discuss the costs associated with new construction: roughly $5,000 for a new water meter, plus the costs of repaving the road after the house is hooked up to the sewer pipeline.

At last night’s meeting of the Hi-Desert Water District Board of Directors, the board adopted a resolution that would make new applicants for water service responsible for providing required town permits. The new homeowners would also be responsible for paying to have the street repaved after their homes were connected to the sewer lines. Directors were dismayed that these costs could add around $10,000 to the cost of a new build. The board also discussed having representatives from the Town of Yucca Valley attend the water district’s meetings to help the wastewater project run more smoothly.

The board also established the normal working hours of 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday for the wastewater treatment plant employees.
