The Hi-Desert Water District held their meeting last night. Reporter Joshua King has the details…
At last night’s Hi-Desert Water District meeting, the board of directors began the with public comments, in which a member of the public demanded that the board and whoever replaces the seat left by director Sarann Graham take a public anti-racist stance.
The board then began to interview consulting firms to see which one will assist with the recruitment search for a new general manager to fill the role by Ed Muzik when he retires early next year.
After a rocky technical start and some organizational issues, presentations were given by each of the six applying firms. A member of the public asked the presenters about how anti-racism affects their hiring process as consulting firms, but the board disallowed the firms the opportunity to respond on the basis that they had already given brief descriptions of their hiring processes in their presentations.
Following that, the board voted to eschew an election to fill the vacancy left by former Director Sarann Graham and instead opted to appoint a replacement at a future date following interviews.
Finally, the board decided to oppose AB 3030, a bill concerned with land and sea conservation, on the grounds that the language of the bill is currently too broad.
