The Hi-Desert Water District Chief Plant Operator Doug Culbert told the board of directors at its meeting last night that there are now 250 households connected to the sewer project. Culbert brought in four sample bottles of water from the sewer plant showing the progress of how the water is cleaned as it goes through the plant.

Chief sewer plan operator Doug Culbert showed the Hi-Desert Water District board of directors four bottles filled with water from the sewer plant. On the far left is influent, sewage water that comes in to the plant. Next is water from the aeration basin, called mixed liquor. The third bottle is permeate, and has been cleaned and disinfected for two hours (normal cleaning is 24 hours), and the bottle on the far right is tap water. Tami Roleff photo

In other business, the board approved a change order in which shade structures would be built at the three lift stations by a shade structure company at a considerable savings than having the sewer plant contractor.

And finally, the board approved a sewer assessment agreement with Walmart, Panda Express, and Taco Bell. The three businesses will be paying more than $1.2 million in assessment fees, with Walmart paying about $959,000.

And at 5 p.m. tonight, the water district will hold an informational meeting about its water rate adjustments. The proposed changes include reducing the number of tiers from four to three, as well as adjusting the fixed charges. A copy of the rate changes can be found with this story at z1077fm.com. Tonight’s community forum will be held in district offices at Highway 62 and Inca Trail in Yucca Valley.
