On Wednesday, September 11, the Hi-Desert Water District Board of Directors approved the billing process for sewer service charges associated with the new wastewater treatment facility. Assignment reporter Keith Bailey has more details on the new monthly charges.
Over the next few months, Yucca Valley residents will soon be hooked up to the new sewer system. The monthly sewer operations and maintenance fee will eventually be placed on the homeowner’s property tax bills. But because the properties are being connected to the sewer after the August deadline for annual property tax filings, the monthly sewer fees will temporarily be added to the residents’ monthly water bills. The fee is estimated to be $41.50 each month for the 2018-19 fiscal year, and $42.75 per month for the 2019-20 fiscal year, increasing by 3 percent every year through 2022. Once the fee can be billed to the property owner through their property taxes, it will be removed from the monthly water bills.
