HI-DESERT PUBLISHING TEAM WINS ANNUAL SPELL-A-THON

After 14 rounds of spelling words, the 24th annual spell-a-thon on Saturday was whittled down from 10 teams to its final two: the Letterhead Shrikes and the Hi-Desert Publishing Unified Field Theory. The Shrikes, comprised of Joe Zarki, Marilyn Lutz, and Katie Sosayachanh missed irretrievable, which was then correctly spelled by Kurt Schauppner, Stacy Moore, and Mike Armstrong. The Hi-Desert Publishing team then went on to correctly spell ancillary to claim the title of Spell-a-thon champions. The event is a fundraiser for the Morongo Basin Coalition for Adult Literacy. The team with the most pledges was Cathy and the Lascivious Lads of Copper Mountain College, who brought in more than $1000 in pledges.
