HI-DESERT NATURE MUSEUM REOPENING BY APPOINTMENT

As the county enters the red tier, more of our favorite spaces are opening back up to the public. Reporter Joshua King has details on the re-opening of the Hi-Desert Nature Museum…

The Hi-Desert Nature Museum will reopen to the public on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 by appointment. Reservations for museum visits are available for Wednesdays through Saturdays and can be scheduled online at the museum’s website. Each visit is limited to 45 minutes with up to 10 members of the same household able to attend.

The popular Kid’s Corner will be available with some limitations. The museum will reopen with “Salton Sea Stories,” an exhibition where visitors can experience the heyday of the Salton Sea. The exhibition presents the photography of vaudeville performer George Mann, taken in 1962, and highlights the story of Helen Burns, “Queen of the Salton Sea.” The museum will also feature “Winged Messengers” a compilation of fine-art photography depicting the intricacies of entomology by local artist Patti Dietrick.  For details, please visit the museum’s booking page or contact museum staff at (760) 369-7212.
