Hi-Desert Medical Center will offer a six-week smoking cessation program facilitated by Stan Joyce. Classes begin Thursday, Sept. 18, at 1 p.m. in the Helen Gray Education Center on the hospital campus in Joshua Tree, and meet each Thursday through October 23. The program is based on a process which allows the smoker to access personal reasons to quit. It also will focus on understanding the addiction and learning simple and effective coping and stress management techniques. Other topics include weight management, addiction cycle and relapse, and staying quit forever. The classes are free but registration is required by calling 760-366-0808 or though the hospital website, hdmc.org.
