Free medical educational classes are being offered at Hi-Desert Medical Center. Reporter Taylor Thacker checks out this month’s offerings…
Hi-Desert Medical Center hosts free education classes for newly diagnosed diabetes patients, or for those who could benefit from review of basic disease management. Instructor and registered dietitian Jean Kaduk-Gallagher at Hi-Desert Medical Center provides relevant tools and information patients need and has expanded the education to four one-hour classes to provide comprehensive training and understanding. The classes consist of topics such as “Where do I begin?” where participants will learn the basics to diabetes; “controlling my blood sugar” that will include information on how to lower blood sugar; “blood pressure and lipids” that will focus on medical nutrition therapy; and “weight management,” where participants will learn about calorie-lowering strategies and the importance of activity. These classes take place at 11:00 a.m. on the first four Tuesdays of the month in the Helen Gray Education Center on the medical center campus in Joshua Tree. For more information call 760-366-6324.
