A Hesperia man was arrested Friday in Joshua Tree for making a false report of a crime. According to a Sheriff’s report, Daniel Davis, 25, said he was driving on Old Woman Springs Road in Johnson Valley Tuesday night when, he claimed, two vehicles boxed in his car and forced him off the road. Davis then said two black males, who were both wearing masks, confronted him, vandalized his vehicle, and slashed him with razor blade knives while yelling racial slurs. Davis said he drove to Hesperia where he reported the assault to the Sheriff’s Department about 8:45 p.m. He was treated for injuries at a local hospital and released.
On Wednesday, detectives from the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s station followed up on the case. During their investigation, they determined that Davis had made up the story for his own personal reasons, damaged his own car, and caused his own injuries. The case was forwarded to the District Attorney’s office and an arrest warrant was issued. On Friday, Daniel Davis was arrested in Joshua Tree for investigation for making a false claim of an assault and hate crime to law enforcement and was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail with his bail set at $25,000.
