Southern California Edison offers these tips to prepare for a power outage. If you have a well, your water pump will not work, so have plenty of water available for you and your pets, as well as water to flush toilets. Have flashlights handy with fresh batteries. If you have a generator, do not use it to power your house; instead, plug your appliances like your refrigerator into it. And never operate a generator inside your house; always keep it outside. Freeze water in milk jugs and put them in your refrigerator to keep it cool. Learn how to manually open your garage door.
