Deputies called in a helicopter to help search for a suspect who fled following a traffic stop in Twentynine Palms Wednesday afternoon. According to a Sheriff’s report, a deputy saw a green Chevy Camaro traveling eastbound on Old Dale Road at a high rate of speed about 3 p.m. As the car turned into the Sunland Court Mobile Home Park, a man, identified in the report as Christopher Jonas, jumped from the vehicle while it was still moving and fled on foot. Despite an intensive area search by deputies and a Sheriff’s helicopter, the suspect was not found. Jonas has warrants for his arrest for vehicle theft. Deputies did find the suspect’s cell phone inside the car and took it for safekeeping.
