February is American Heart Month and Z107.7 wants to encourage you to be heart healthy. Assignment Reporter Claire Grow gave Dr. Edith Jones-Poland a call to talk about ways to reduce your risk for heart disease and stroke…
Everyone knows that exercise is good for you, but how much do you need to live a heart-healthy lifestyle? According to Dr. Jones-Poland, that’s about 20-30 minutes a day, and it’s easier than you think.
“If that’s walking, swimming, hiking, biking, yoga, tai chi, whatever it is, because the body benefits from the movement.” – Dr. Jones-Poland
And getting your body moving is not only good for your heart, but for your entire body.
“It helps to distract the mind. The body needs movement, and the mind needs stillness. So, as you’re walking, biking, hiking, all of those things that you’re doing for the body, you’re also giving the mind an opportunity to rest.” – Dr. Jones-Poland
