February is American Heart Month and Z107.7 wants to encourage you to be heart healthy. Reporter Cassidy Taylor gave Dr. Edith Jones-Poland a call to talk about ways to reduce your risk for heart disease and stroke…
“We can’t understate the importance of controlling blood pressure.”
It is typical for those with high blood pressure to have very few symptoms and uncontrolled blood pressure can damage blood vessels.
“And the way that the body heals the damaged blood vessels is that it can lay down cholesterol, which began to develop plaque in the arteries.”
Dr. Jones-Poland says that it is worthwhile to speak with your doctor and get a blood pressure reading so that you can prevent becoming a victim of heart disease, attack, or stroke. And if your doctor prescribes medication, be sure to take it to keep your blood pressure under control.
