The Morongo Basin Healthcare District held a special quarterly shared meeting with Community Health Center board Thursday. During the meeting, the boards were presented with the Community Health Needs Assessment.
The report didn’t show much change in the Morongo Basin and compared to the State of California and its 58 counties, San Bernardino County ranks 40th in overall health outcomes, 33rd in length of life, and 53rd in quality of life.
The report also showed that 44.8 percent of Morongo Basin residents suffered poor mental health lasting 14 days or more in the past month and that residents experience a high degree of food insecurity with more that 70 percent of residents living more than a mile away from a supermarket.
The various boards at the healthcare district are now in discussions on how they can turn the assessment around and see improvement in the Morongo Basin in the coming years.
