The board of directors for the Morongo Basin Healthcare District will meet at 6:00 tonight (Thursday, April 8). The sole action item on the agenda is the approval of a policy on the use of social media by employees. Tonight’s meeting will be held online for the public. Managing editor Tami Roleff says CEO Jackie Combs will give an update to directors on what’s going in the healthcare district…
CEO Jackie Combs is expected to tell directors that the Morongo Basin Healthcare District has provided over 900 first- and second-doses of COVID-19 vaccines to Morongo Basin residents since February. The district has signed a memorandum of understanding with the FIND food bank to open another food distribution site in Yucca Valley. A second psychiatrist has been hired; Dr. Paris Humphries will be working remotely for the next year.
Last month, directors learned that the healthcare district hopes to distribute 2,500 vaccine doses each week.
And the pandemic has had a negative effect on the Twenty-nine Palms Band of Mission Indians, which had made a verbal agreement with the district in 2018 to donate funds each year for the mobile medical unit. Due to the pandemic, the tribe said it will no longer be able to continue the payments.
